Miniclip, a leading digital games company, has partnered with FC Barcelona to bring the club to their hit mobile game Soccer Stars™. Players will be able to compete as the famous football club, taking on other players from around the globe with game pieces bearing the FC Barcelona crest.
Soccer Stars™, a free online multiplayer casual game, was released shortly before the 2014 FIFA World Cup on Android, iOS and Amazon devices and quickly became the #1 sports app in the UK. Soccer Stars™ players can already take to the field in their national team colours, but this is the first time that a football club will feature in the game.
“We are thrilled to welcome FC Barcelona as the first real-life football club to feature in Soccer Stars™,” said Saad Choudri, Miniclip’s Chief Commercial Officer. “Soccer Stars™ is one of the biggest multiplayer soccer titles in the world, so it’s only right that one of the world’s biggest clubs is the first to feature in the game.”
“Adding the Barça crest to Miniclip is another way to achieve engagement with our supporters through entertainment. Our digital strategy is to make ourselves present on mobiles and form part of the day to day lives of Barça fans at any time around the world,” said Dídac Lee, director of Media and Communication and responsible for New Technologies of FC Barcelona.
Miniclip, with over 70 million monthly players across mobile, social and online platforms, is set to add the FC Barcelona items to Soccer Stars™ later this year. The game is available now on iOS (http://mcgam.es/mcsoccer) and Android (http://mcgam.es/miniclipsoccerstars).
About FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona was founded on November 29, 1899 by initiative of a Swiss gentleman called Hans Maximilian Gamper, popularly known as Joan Gamper. Since it was founded, the club has had 44 different presidents. From Walter Wild to Josep Maria Bartomeu, Barça has grown into a massive social phenomenon that reaches far beyond the bounds of mere sport. The club has grown along with the city around it, and has come to represent Barcelona and Catalonia all around the world.
FC Barcelona now has more members than any other football club in the world and its achievements have also made it one of the most successful. The many famous victories and all-time greats that have played for the club (Kubala, Cruyff, Maradona, Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi, and so many more) form an important part of the Barça legacy. But these would be no more than historical anecdotes if it wasn’t for the extraordinary social reality behind the events.
Miniclip is a global leader in digital games. The company develops, publishes and distributes highly engaging games to an audience of 70 million monthly active users, across mobile, social and online platforms.
Founded in 2001, the company has successfully grown a huge organic global audience in over 195 countries and across six continents.
